Barents Sports Development Project supports competence and responsibility through training

The preparations for the Barents Summer Games 2026 are supported by the Barents Sports Development Project, which aims to strengthen expertise in event organization, responsibility, and shared operating models. Through the project, training and skills development are provided especially for local sports clubs, volunteers, and other actors involved in organizing the event. The Barents Sports Development Project is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland.

The training themes are directly based on the needs of an international sports event. The programme includes training on responsibility in sports events, first aid courses, and steward training. These trainings ensure that event staff and volunteers have the necessary skills to operate in different situations and to take care of participant safety during the competition week.

The objective of the development project is to strengthen the appreciation and visibility of Barents Games. The project creates permanent operating models and best practices that can be utilized in future Barents Games events and other sports events in the region. In this way, the competence developed will continue to benefit local clubs and event activities long after the Games.
